What clients say about our work together:

“Having recently left my gallery, I was in a period of transition and needed to figure out next steps. I wanted to take an inventory and move forward in a way that recognized my art accomplishments and other obligations/passions — I was in search of a way to build a practice and career that would serve me as a whole person. In my work with Bean, I felt a shift in my anxiety and confusion regarding opportunities and studio work, and our discussions really helped me deal with fear and procrastination. Seeing how I could structure my goals and stay accountable gave me renewed energy and enthusiasm. As a result, I am feeling more peaceful and creative. I applied to and was awarded an artist residency and fellowship! I created a new body of work and sold three pieces. I've gotten my work in front of two other organizations, and am in the draft stage of two applications for commissions/purchases. Thank you, thank you! After a really difficult few years, Bean really helped me get back on track and embrace my agency in pursuit of joy.”

“I wanted support in moving my studio practice into first-place priority, as I've got a few too many hats on. The clarity and acuity with which Bean helped me navigate the otherwise-mess that is my professional life was invaluable; the structure of accountability is in and of itself worth it. This year I set a higher intention of achieving recognition, and winning [a $50,000 award] felt directly related to the support structure I had through coaching with Bean. It was such a 10. It was an 11.”

“Talking with Bean has given me better tools to take into my daily life while working on all the small steps of my goals. Since I began working with Bean, I don't sweat the rejections as much and I've learned to be gentler toward myself. I'm able to look at opportunities more clearly to figure out which are worth my time and how to make them more fulfilling. One thing I want to say is that I trust Bean and don't feel judged. Trust is very important when you are rambling about icky fears and things getting in the way of doing the work. Getting this out of my system helps me refresh, and it feels good to be growing more into the artist and person I want to be.”

“Coaching is about getting real with yourself in order to actually set your own map of goals. Having an encouraging ‘do it now’ voice in my life has helped me deal with the noise and problems that affect me before the creative work even begins. And having access to this support system has enabled me to look deeply into myself and reframe my creative work into something flexible and sustainable.”

“After many years of being a parent and running an art related business, I was most interested in re-focusing on my own work and artistic life. I knew I wanted to work with someone who had a realistic view and deep respect for what it means to be an artist. The process of identifying my intentions and values was meaningful, and it has very much helped to remind myself of them each day/week. It has also really meant a lot to me to not have to explain what an artist does, or how the life and goals that an artist might make are different from what another person might come up with. Since working with Bean, I have become more clear about what I want and have been able to take meaningful, achievable steps to get there. Being an artist is really hard, and sustaining a career as an artist is even harder, but this process helped me better define the "why" (why am I doing this?) and allowed me to move forward with the "what" and the "how" (what am I going to do? and how am I going to do it?). The path is still a long one, but I feel like I took a shortcut for a bit.”

“My dream is a museum retrospective of my sculpture. Working with Bean for six months changed that dream into a goal with a three year plan. Bean uses many approaches, and has remarkable presence in session. She asks questions that shine a light on limiting beliefs that then can be discussed, discarded, or broken down into actionable steps. Working with Bean allowed me to see that my work has outgrown my ability to do it all myself. That is a good thing. It frees me from the solitary artist myth, and invites me to find both community and greater support for my art.”

-P.G.

“I felt stagnant in my practice and my growth as an artist. My work with Bean felt organic and responsive to where I was in the moment. It made my lofty (and slightly vague) goals into manageable, actionable steps that ended up being about a lot more than simply making money from my work. It was really helpful to make peace with my brain and understand that my hesitations and patterns were very normal, and I was given some good tools for moving through these patterns. Coaching helped me understand that I am ready right now, with what I have, to be what I say I want to be.”

-J.J.

“I came to coaching because I wanted to allow myself to envision, and then act on, the things that are important to me CREATIVELY. Bean is an extraordinary coach. She is emotionally intelligent, clear, perceptive, and skillful at creating a space where I could connect with my potential in an empowering way. She supported me in overcoming the obstacles that interfered with turning my potential into results that were satisfying and enlivening. I highly recommend her!”

-Jill F.

“Working with Bean was such a delightful and rewarding experience. She helped me reframe some longstanding beliefs that were holding me back in my practice. Our conversations were always lively and insightful, and they helped me recognize and break through to the next level. I gained powerful insights, slayed some pesky dragons, and had fun in the process.”
